Last year's Beaulieu Village Fete was unable to take place due to Covid, but the event certainly returned in glorious style for the 2021 August Bank Holiday.
There was a record number of visitors over a wider area as Lord Montagu kindly opened up more of the gardens to assist with the flow of people and create more room. The atmosphere was wonderful, with many people in costume, as the theme this year was "Carnival" and it felt like a real celebration, especially in the sunshine.
Beaulieu Camera Group's display area was situated at the bottom of the field, happily next to the barbeque and Pimms and strawberries, which pleased our members, and near to the handbag and jewellery stalls, which certainly drew the crowds.
Nearly every member of BCG had at least one print included, with a total of nearly eighty on display. Our tribute to Alan Cooke was given prominence as people walked into the exhibition and it was wonderful to see the array of his superb images on one board. His wife Fran, who kindly lent us the prints, visited during the afternoon, which made it extra special.
The celebrity guest, who opened the Fete, Helen McGinn was asked to choose her "favourite" print. She selected "Running Repair" by Alan Price, who was presented with a bottle of champagne. This choice was particularly pleasing as Alan was the official photographer for the Fete and had been very busy carrying out those duties.
Members of the public were also asked to vote for their 'favourite" print, with the recipient receiving the Bob Grier Memorial Trophy. A total of 220 people voted and the winning print was "Hardly a Ripple" by Bob Abbott.
A huge "Thank You" to our members for all their help in setting up the exhibition, stewarding in the afternoon and taking it all down at the end, particularly Hilary, Paul, Ian, Greg, Alan, Neil and Fiona and Megan and of course all the members whose prints were on display.
The Fete is a great showcase for Beaulieu Camera Group and certainly this year the quality of work on display was superb.
