2024 Boys v Girls PDI Competition 18th September

Details
Published: 19 September 2024

Beaulieu Camera Group's annual "Boys v Girls" competition took place on 18th September. The "Boys" were in the lead by 4-0 since its inception so the "Girls" were certainly keen to win this years event.

The members of each team were invited to submit up to 3 PDI images to their Team Captains whose task was to choose twenty to represent them, with at least one included from each member.

Our judge for the event was Maria Leekblade LRPS,AFIAP, DPAGB, a member of Lymington Camera Club. Maria has judged many of our competitions in the past and we always enjoy her critique and insightful commentary.

There was a great array of subjects and genres shown, with Maria giving equal consideration to all. The images were scored out of 10 and the team with the most marks were declared the winners.

The final result couldn't have been closer with another win for "The Boys'" team who scored a total of 173.5 marks with "The Girls'" team scoring a total of 172.5. The "Girls" were gracious in defeat and the victorious "Boys" kindly shared the winners' prize of a box of Heroes with them, which was some consolation.

Congratulations to the following members whose images scored 10: Ian Bateson for "Forest Dawn", Vanessa Bateson for "Trolls of Vik", Linda Dunham for "Jaz Delorean", Ian Hutchinson for "Nuthatch", Alan Price ARPS for "Calle Nuova" and Maggie White CPAGB for "Sunset at Longslade Bottom".

This annual event was founded in 2021 in memory of Alan Cooke, a much-loved member of Beaulieu Camera Group, to celebrate his wide range of photography.

The images for each year's competition portray a different genre and the one chosen for 2024 was "Black and White", A definition of the theme which was sent to our members and the judge, Gladys Perrier Co-Chair of Bracknell Camera Group, Gladys visited Beaulieu in 2023 to judge a competition and we had no hesitation in asking her to judge this year's Alan Cooke Memorial Shield.
