Over the course of the year, a total of 53 Seals of Merit were awarded at the four Open and one Set Subject ("Transport") competitions. A new judge to the area, Paul Mitchell FRPS and a member of Arena, visited Beaulieu Camera Group for the first time. Paul's assessment of each image was excellent and much appreciated and enjoyed by the membership.

1st Place and winner of the PDI of the Year Trophy was awarded to Emma Port for her striking image "Close Contact".

Print of the Year 2022

Details
Published: 03 November 2022

Beaulieu Camera Group held our Print of the Year competition on 2nd November. It was technically "Print of the Year 2021/22" as prints which had been awarded Seals of Merit at the single Open print competition held in 2021 were added to those from the three Open print competitionswhich took place in  2022.

A total of 42 prints were eligible and our judge for the evening, Roy Lambeth DPAGB EFIAP BPE2*, certainly had a hard task in selecting the award winners. No marks were required, but Roy's critique of each image was excellent, with much thought given to his appraisals and reasoning behind the decision whether to hold it back or not.

Eighteen prints were held back for further consideration with the final results as follows:

1st Place and winner of the Greg Holmes Print of the Year Trophy was awarded to Bob Abbott for his wonderful image "Fox and Rapeseed".

Bob had two other prints which received awards with "Low Tide at Lepe" gaining 2nd place and a Highly Commended Certificate for "Dawn at Blackchurch Rock.

Boys v Girls Competition 21st September 2022

Details
Published: 25 September 2022

BCG's 3rd "Boys v Girls" competition was held on 21st September. The "Boys'" team had won the previous two events, so "The Girls'" team was hoping to claim a victory this time.

The members of each team were invited to submit up to 4 PDI images to their Team Captains whose task was to choose twenty to represent them.

Our judge for the event was Mark Lanigan LRPS, Chairman of Lymington Camera Club. Mark gave a score up to 10 for each image after he had critiqued it and these were added together and the team with the most marks were declared the winners. There was a great array of subjects and genres shown, with Mark giving equal consideration to all.  It was certainly a very close fought competition.

The final result was another win for "The Boys'" team who scored a total of 171 marks with "The Girls'" team scoring a total of 165. The Girls certainly have some catching up to do.

Congratulations to the following members whose images scored the highest marks: Ian Bateson for "Sand Storm" and "Sea Shore", Alison Cawley for "Last Light" and "Snowdrops", Vanessa Bateson for "Vik Stacks", Ralph Ellis for "Isolation" and Ian Park for "Misty Morning".

Beaulieu Village Fete 16th July 2022

Details
Published: 17 July 2022

This year's Beaulieu Village Fete took place on a very hot and sunny day, but this certainly didn't deter the number of visitors or affect the enthusiasm of all involved. A truly lovely event, as always.

Beaulieu Camera Group were once again delighted to take part. Changes had been made to the locations of the different stalls and activities this year and our display of prints was moved to the top lawn, which was a great place to be.

Nearly every member of BCG was represented with a total of 67 prints on show, plus an extra display of photos taken at the Platinum Jubilee events held in Beaulieu by Hilary Flaxman and Emma Port. Our new print stands, purchased with a grant from The Beaulieu Common Good Trust, looked splendid and really showed the prints to great effect.

The Fete was opened by The High Sheriff of Hampshire, Lady Edwina Grosvenor. She was invited to select her "favourite" print from those on display and chose "Porcelein Fungi" by Ian Hutchinson, commenting that it reminded her of walks in the New Forest. Ian was presented with a bottle of Champagne by Lady Edwina.

Each year, The Bob Grier Trophy is awarded to the print which receives the most votes from the public at the Fete. This year's recipient of the award was Maggie White with her image "A Leap at Lepe" which was by far and away the winner. The trophy was presented to Maggie by Sue Grier.

A big thank you to all the BCG members who were involved in  setting up the display and packing everything away at the end, particularly Tony Darnell, Hilary Flaxman, Ian Hutchinson, Emma Port, Alan Price and Megan Stephenson. Lots of members visited the Fete during the afternoon at what is always a great social occasion and it was lovely to meet new people and catch up with old friends.

The Alan Cooke Memorial Shield 2022

Details
Published: 14 July 2022

This annual event was founded in 2021 in memory of Alan Cooke, a much-loved member of Beaulieu Camera Group to celebrate his wide range of photography.

The images for each year's competition portray a different genre and the one chosen for 2022 was "Minimalism", a subject that Alan was particularly proficient at.

Unfortunately, due to contracting Covid, the original judge for the evening, Mark Lanigan was unable to visit Beaulieu, We were very fortunate that Alison Cawley ARPS DPAGB stepped in at such short notice. Alison is very well qualified to judge this particular genre, having created many stunning images herself using as few elements as possible.

There was a total entry of 48 images from which Alison chose the 1st place winner, two Highly Commended images and eight Commended images.

1st place and winner of the Alan Cooke Memorial Shield was Bob Abbott with "Sea Pool".  We were delighted that Fran Cooke came to watch the competition and present the trophy to Bob.

Two images were given Highly Commended awards, "Roses Fading" by Hilary Flaxman CPAGB and "Smokin'" by Alan Price ARPS.

Alison selected eight images for Highly Commended awards:

"Old Jetty at Sunrise" by Bob Abbott, "Warning" by Tony Darnell, "Back to the Future" by Sue Dunham CPAGB, "Tunnel Vision" by Gordon Garrett, "Bowhead Whales Meeting" by Jo Lock, "Sky High" by Ian Park, "Exhausted" by Alan Price ARPS and "Blue Moon" by Megan Stephenson.

Congratulations to all the winners and well done to all the members who entered the competition with such a wonderful array of images. We certainly did Alan proud.
