This year's Fordingbridge Challenge Trophy took place on 27th April remotely via Zoom. Louis Rumis EFIAP MPAGB, who had been sent the images beforehand to assess, again made a return as the judge.
Eight clubs took part, each with an entry of eight PDI images, which should not have been used previously in an external competition.
As always, the standard of images was extremely high with a great variety of genres and styles of photography represented.
The winner of the trophy was Fordingbridge CC with a total of 71.5 marks. Beaulieu Camera Group finished in 4th place overall with 67 marks.
Congratulations to all the BCG members whose images represented the Group in this competition, particularly Maggie White CPAGB whose image "A Leap at Lepe" was awarded the maximum score of 10.

BCGs PDI of the Year 2021 took place on 1st December with Jon Mitchell of Gosport Camera Club as our judge for the event. Sixty eight images had each been awarded a Seal of Merit at the five competitions held during 2021, including the set subject of "Water" and these vied for the PDI of the Year Trophy, 2nd and 3rd places and Highly Commended awards.
Jon's appraisal of the images was excellent with a good deal of consideration given to the merits of each image. He explained the reasoning behind his comments and why some just missed out out being selected for the awards. Jon commented on the high quality of all the Seal Winners and what a hard task he had in choosing the final ones.

Our inaugural "Alan Cooke Memorial Shield" competition took place on 20th October. This new annual event was founded to celebrate Alan's commitment to Beaulieu Camera Group and his photography.
Each year's competition will have a different genre to portray Alan's wide range of photographic skills and give diverse members a chance of being awarded the Shield. "Candid Photography"was chosen for the 1st one as it was the genre Alan was best known for.
Our judge for the evening was Roger Creber AFIAP ARPS DPAGB, who gave every image equal consideration while also appreciating its adherence to the theme. There was a total entry of 53 from which Roger chose the 1st place winner, two Highly Commended and eight Commended images.
1st place was awarded to Edna Phillips with "Lazing in the Sun".

Two images were awarded Highly Commended awards, "Crying with Laughter" by Barry Armstrong and "Bikers Relax" by Alan Price ARPS.

The following images were Commended:
Barry Armstrong "The Bubble Man", Alison Cawley "Two Pints and a Packet of Fags", Neil Hardy "Important Discussions", Ian Park "Nepalese School Girls", Alan Price "...and it was This Big", Alan Price "Butter Cross Busking", Rob Snellgrove "Preparing for Friday Prayers" and Maggie White "Hard Times".

Last year's Beaulieu Village Fete was unable to take place due to Covid, but the event certainly returned in glorious style for the 2021 August Bank Holiday.
There was a record number of visitors over a wider area as Lord Montagu kindly opened up more of the gardens to assist with the flow of people and create more room. The atmosphere was wonderful, with many people in costume, as the theme this year was "Carnival" and it felt like a real celebration, especially in the sunshine.
Beaulieu Camera Group's display area was situated at the bottom of the field, happily next to the barbeque and Pimms and strawberries, which pleased our members, and near to the handbag and jewellery stalls, which certainly drew the crowds.

Nearly every member of BCG had at least one print included, with a total of nearly eighty on display. Our tribute to Alan Cooke was given prominence as people walked into the exhibition and it was wonderful to see the array of his superb images on one board. His wife Fran, who kindly lent us the prints, visited during the afternoon, which made it extra special.
The celebrity guest, who opened the Fete, Helen McGinn was asked to choose her "favourite" print. She selected "Running Repair" by Alan Price, who was presented with a bottle of champagne. This choice was particularly pleasing as Alan was the official photographer for the Fete and had been very busy carrying out those duties.

Members of the public were also asked to vote for their 'favourite" print, with the recipient receiving the Bob Grier Memorial Trophy. A total of 220 people voted and the winning print was "Hardly a Ripple" by Bob Abbott.

A huge "Thank You" to our members for all their help in setting up the exhibition, stewarding in the afternoon and taking it all down at the end, particularly Hilary, Paul, Ian, Greg, Alan, Neil and Fiona and Megan and of course all the members whose prints were on display.
The Fete is a great showcase for Beaulieu Camera Group and certainly this year the quality of work on display was superb.
