At the 2017 Print of the Year competition, held on 1st November, thirty five prints which had been awarded Seals of Merit during the year vied for the trophy.
Keven Sandall, our judge for the event, did an excellent job of choosing those he wished to hold back, and selecting his final choices.
The results were:-
1st Place "A Walk Through Narnia" Cathryn Baldock
2nd Place " Open Wide" Alan Cooke
HC "Evening Light at Clevedon" Cathryn Baldock
HC "The Boys" Anthony Lewis
Cathryn's print "A walk through Narnia, New Forest, Hampshire, England" has also been commended and selected as one of this year's "Landscape Photographer of the Year 2017" images, which is a massive achievement. Many congratulation to her very deserved achievements.

Visitors to the traditional English Fete enjoyed a beautiful sunny afternoon on the lawns of Palace house. On show were a wide selection of photographic prints, taken by the enthusiastic members of Beaulieu Camera Group
The exhibition was very popular and compliments on the diversity of style and quality of the photography were numerous. Visitors to the exhibition were asked to choose their favourite print . Votes were cast by over 350 people.
The the winning photograph (gaining 12%of the votes ) was taken by Greg Holmes . It was entitled 'Well Caught' and captured the magical moment of a Kingfisher catching a fish in mid air. Greg will be awarded the Bob Grier Memorial Trophy for the forthcoming year.
Second place was 'Pot Shop' by Barry Armstrong with Rob Snellgrove coming a very close third with 'Tortoise'.
Celebrity Favourite Print chosen by Sam Fraser (weather presenter on South Today)
This year the fete was opened by Sam Fraser, a radio personality and a weather presenter on South Today.
Sam was invited to select her favourite photograph. It was a difficult choice and she finally decided on a graphic story telling image. It was taken by Alan Cooke at the Tate Modern and was entitled 'And frightened Miss Muffet Away'. It featured a small child framed between the legs of a giant sculpture of a spider. Alan received a bottle of Beaulieu Bubbly which was presented by Lord Montague.

The Southampton Camera Club annual awards presentations of the Southampton International Exhibition took place on Saturday 6th May. It was quite an evening and the images were superb.
There was a very important special award presented by Ian Platt MFIAP FRPS Hon PAGB Hon EFIAP, who is Hon Life Vice-President of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) and Chairman of their awards committee. The award was to 'our' Sue Dunham, who is now Sue Dunham LRPS APAGB.
The PAGB is the national umbrella organisation for camera clubs in Britain and Sue was awarded ‘APAGB’. This ‘Award for Meritorious Services’ recognises individual club members who have given service over many years within the PAGB community of member Federations (like the Southern Counties Photographic Federation) and affiliated clubs (like Beaulieu Camera Group).
In Sue’s case this was in recognition of her unstinting work on the Southampton International Exhibition over many years, including acceptance, collation etc. of print entries and running the digital road-shows. This year there was a total of over 7,000 entries from 54 countries, so it is no mean task. However, the awards committee also required supporting evidence of the contribution Sue has made to Beaulieu Camera Group over the years and Sue has surely contributed more to Beaulieu Camera Group than anyone else.
